History and Purposes of ECF

Estonian Chess Federation has reconstructed 31.03. in 1990 and it is heir-at-law of the Estonian Chess Federation which
was constituted in 1931.
The purposes of ECF are to advocate the top, tournament and amateur sport among Estonian people,
to enlarge the popularity of chess and to enlarge the front-ranking, to predispose the conditions
of chess life and free time living.
Estonian chess has great and far-flung traditions, which most are involved with Estonian strongest chessplayer
Paul Keres. Estonia organises unique 100 board chess matches between Latvia and Finland.
In last years chess life has gone more active in Estonia.
Estonian Chess Federation has 38 official chess clubs.
The only county, where aren't any official clubs is Hiiumaa.
State statistics says that there are 89 sport clubs where people can play and study chess.
In Estonia there are chess championships in long time control for 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 years old boys and girls,
for men, women and seniors. Additionally there are team champonships for juniors and for grown up in classical chess,
rapid and blitz championships for boys, girls, men, women and seniors.
Every year there are 27 different types of championships in Estonia.
In every year our 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 years old boys and girls take part in juniors World Championship and
juniors European Championsip. Our national men and women chess team take part in Chess Olympics and at possible
opportunity in World Championship and European Championship.
