Paul Keres Chess Festival, July 14 th - 20 th

The winner was Estonian grandmaster Kaido Kulaots with 8 points from 9. Followed Artjom Smirnov from Sankt-Beterburg with same score but worse coefficient. Next ones:6.5 points got Tomi Nybäck (FIN), Olav Sepp (EST), Mikael Nouro (FIN), Janis Klovans (FIN), Meelis Kanep (EST) and Tarvo Seeman (EST).

IM Meelis Kanep won I Jyri Vetemaa Memorial blitz event

18.04.

IM Meelis Kanep Blitz tournament was held with 15 rounds. Clear winner was IM Meelis Kanep with 13 points, followed GM Edvins Kengis and rm Tarvo Seeman with 12 points. Fourth was GM Harmen Jonkman 11.5p, fifth GM Kaido Kulaots 11p and sixth FM Ivan Akimov 10.5p.

GM Edvins Kengis In Parnu there were 24 participants from 10 different countries. Clear winner was GM Edvins Kengis (LAT) with 5.5 points out of 7. Followed GM Kaido Kulaots (EST), IM Olav Sepp (EST), IM Meelis Kanep (EST) and GM Harmen Jonkman (NED) with 5 points.

Estonian Blitz Championship

12.04.

Estonian Chess Blitz Championship was held on May 10th in Tallinn with 70 men and 15 women. Men's tournament had quite low level, because all grandmasters and stronger IM-s were playing somewhere else. Offcourse this year winner IM Riho Liiva isn't weak at all in blitz. He won without doubts (expect some strange scores) with 17 points out of 20. Second was IM Tarvo Seeman and third Igor Krupenski with 15 points. In women tournament the title was won IM Tatjana Fomina with 12.5p from 15. This was her 4th win in the row for last four years. Second was Regina Narva and third young talent Viktoria Bashkite with 11.5 points.

Aeroflot Open This year our two grandmasters Jaan Ehlvest and Kaido Kulaots, two IM-s Meelis Kanep and Olav Sepp and Priit Leito participated to supertournament Aeroflot Open. That event was quite rough to our players, so the best place got Olav Sepp in B-group (6p, 33rd place). Grandmasters Jaan Ehlvest and Kaido Kulaots got both 5 points and Ehlvest was 78 and Kulaots 52.
